You need to send the application form with full payment. The application form can be downloaded from the APPLICATION FORM section. Or contact us to get one by email or post.

What happens if I just turn up on the day without paying or sending the form?
You will be turned away. The teacher will not deal with administration and will only accept students on his/her list of students provided by the admin team at The Language Store.

What is the best way to learn Spanish/French?
Although you could say I’m biased, personal tuition or small groups is the best way to learn a language. Feedback is instant and a good tutor will be able to see where you are going wrong or having difficulties and adjust your tuition accordingly. Learning in larger classes or with books and tapes is less beneficial as you do not get this same continual feedback.

I was not good at languages at school. Will I be able to learn French/Spanish?
Many people studied languages for years at school yet never managed to achieve fluency, but still manage to be good language learners in later life. At school learning a language can seem abstract, or something you’re forced to do. The fact you are reading this suggests you already have some desire and enthusiasm for learning a language – and a little enthusiasm and determination can go a long way.

I don’t feel that confident with English grammar, will I be able to avoid French/Spanish grammar?

Although it can be dry, learning a little grammar will enable to say what you want by forming your own sentences and break away from limited ‘phrase book’ language. Don’t worry, grammar is not baffling when explained well, and learning a new language can help you to better understand your own native tongue.

What levels can you teach?
Over the years I have taught young people working towards French and Spanish GCSE, A-level and undergraduate examinations. I have also taught many people of all ages learning for business or pleasure.

I already know some Spanish/French, will you be able to help me progress?

In the first lesson I can gauge your level and tailor a program to your needs and wishes.

What geographical area do you cover?
I teach on my own premises in Bishopston as it allows me to receive more students in the same evening. I also work with other tutors who also work from home and these are based in Watford, Hemel Hempstead and St Albans.

I don't want to feel like I am going to school, I want to do it for fun and relax. Will you teach me without giving me homework or me having to study at home?
Unfortunately for you the perfect method of learning without having to study or put any effort hasn't been invented yet. Yes, you will have to do homework and yes, you will have to study at home. Unless you are one of those lucky ones who remember everything firt time you will have to revise, write exercises, read the texts, etc at home in order to take in new words, understand new phrases and improve your communication skills. If you don't have enough time or feel you are motivated enough to do some work in between classes, maybe now is not the appropriate time for you to learn a language. You can take a leisure course like crafts or art, and reconsider study a language when you have more time

When I was a kid I learned English without effort, by repeating and didn't have to study grammar. Is it really necessary to go through all the grammar stuff?
Of course not, you can move to the country and start trying to communicate from day one. If you are lucky enough to not find an English speaker it could take you a good few years to get to a communication level enough to work in an office. If you study from England you don't have the advantage of hearing the target language all day, so you need a short cut to get to understand structures and phrases, this is what you will learn, we call this grammar but it is really a set of rules for you to use as a guide. Also remember that children learn in a different way to adults, so you cannot compare the capacity and way of learning of a three year old with a forty year old man.

I am a language tutor. Is the languagestore.co.uk an agency and can you help me to find students?
We are not an agency, we like to call ourselves language school. Send us your CV as we are currently expanding the range of courses we offer. Specially if you teach Spanish, French and Italian. and you have experience of teaching and tutoring adults. We are looking in the areas of Hemel Hempstead, Watford and Bristol (Bishopston)
